Chain to Main News for Friday, May 8th
With your local Waupaca news for this Friday, May 8th, I'm Durant Popple.
Volunteer Waupaca is preparing for a great community event as the Volunteer Waupaca Day of Service returns next week Saturday. The event runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Upper South Park, where volunteers will gather before heading out to work on projects throughout the community. The day wraps up with a celebration including refreshments, entertainment, and prizes. Organizers say the family-friendly event brings residents together to make a positive impact, with t-shirts available for the first 150 participants.
The Waupaca Area Genealogical Society will be holding a presentation tomorrow at 9 at the Holly History Center. Led by Twin City Monument Works, they will talk about cemetery monuments: the types of stones and how to properly clean them. Anyone is welcome, as the event is at no cost, and is made for genealogists, local historians, cemetery volunteers, or anyone interested in preserving historic monuments. More information can be found on the genealogical society's website: WAGS W I dot org.
Hartman Creek State Park has naturalist most weekends through October. Tomorrow morning starting at 8am, will be a morning bird walk, an easy one mile walk on the accessible Dike Trail on Hartman Lake. Anyone is welcome; some binoculars will be available, but it is recommended you bring your own if you have some. Starting at 8 PM, sounds of the night! The camp host will take a short easy walk to listen to and learn about frogs, whippoorwills, and other night creatures. This trail is accessible and paved; but please no dogs. These programs are at no cost, but standard park pass is needed. More information on these and future programs can be found online at friends of Hartman Creek dot org.
